News from the Seminaries

St Peter’s, Malawi

Fr George Buleya, Rector, writes: ‘We would like to extend our deepest gratitude to all our friends and supporters, especially the SPA, who help to keep the seminary going. It is largely through their support that many young men from a variety of backgrounds have responded to God’s call to work in his vineyard. Rest assured of our prayers for you.’

Our Lady of Lanka, Sri Lanka

Rector, Fr Anthony Jayakody, writes: ‘We have made a number of efforts to broad-base our means of income with a view to attaining self-sufficiency. On our farm we are concentrating on ways to harness land in cultivation and animal husbandry, and constructing new water tanks to make better use of rainwater.  We pray for our benefactors in our daily prayers. Though they are far away from us, we feel that they are spiritually present with us. Our prayerful wishes to all our benefactors and their families so that the Good Lord may bless them all abundantly.’

Bigard Memorial, Nigeria

Fr Ukoro Theophilus Igwe, Rector, informs us that the seminary has 648 students this year. The main chapel was recently renovated and other key structural work is still to be undertaken once the debt incurred by the chapel renovation has been cleared.  Fr Ukoro also thanks the supporters of the SPA for the help they give for the upkeep and functioning of the seminary.

St John’s, India

Fr Jayaraju, Rector, tells us that ‘there is a great need for priests – in some dioceses a single priest has to cover as many as 30 to 40 villages. The work is vast; there are sacramental needs and the challenging work of evangelisation, as well as helping people with development programmes in our multi-religious and multi-cultural society. People rejoice to see young priests preaching the Word of God well in the local language. The SPA and its sponsors give us tremendous support to continue the formation of priests. The staff and seminarians pray daily for the intentions of all supporters and are grateful to them for their generosity, prayers and sacrifices.’

Christ the King, Kenya

Rector, Fr James Wainaina, writes: This seminary is trying to become more self-sufficient, especially through their dairy enterprise, ‘We recently bought more than ten cows. In the past year, we have transformed the dairy enterprise from a yield of 30 litres to 200 litres.’
